HAPPY CHILDREN’S DAY PEOPLE!
It’s a very eventful day today! Having 3 celebrations all in 1 day, my dad’s birthday, China’s birthday and children’s day!
We were let off from afternoon’s class today. THANK YOU MR CHIA & MS HOCK!
Apart from all the happy things today, we were hit by 1 BAD NEWS:
THE BACK GATE OF THE HOSTEL THAT LEADS TO 堕落街 WILL BE CLOSED PERMANENTLY AS OF 1ST OCT 2010.
This was implemented to encourage students to dine in at the school’s canteen instead of running to堕落街 to settle our every meal. Another reason for the gate closure was also to tighten the security level of the hostels.

This was implemented to encourage students to dine in at the school’s canteen instead of running to堕落街 to settle our every meal. Another reason for the gate closure was also to tighten the security level of the hostels.
With the gate closure, we will have to make a big detour in order to head to 堕落街 for our meals from now on. BOO HOO! An initial 2 minutes walk now takes 5 to 10 minutes long, how inconvenient. Oh well, think we should settle our meals in the canteens. Alternatively, we can head over to the main gate to have our nice soup at the nearby soup restaurant! All hope is not lost!
As for our dinner, about 10 of us walked through the main gate for McDonald's! YEH! A Filet-O-Fish meal here costs just RMB 20.50. It’s more expensive than the China KFC we had yesterday, but it’s definitely a lot cheaper than Singapore’s McDonald's!
We’ll be going to 步行街at汉口 to shop tomorrow! As it’s China’s national holiday, it will be really crowded. So please take care of your valuables people! Hopefully traffic will be SMOOTH!!
REFLECTION
The closure of the side gate located near our hostel has its pros and cons. It is indeed a good move made by the school to tighten up the security at the hostel area. On the contrary, I do not think that the closure of the side gate to prevent students from frequenting堕落街 and to boost business for the canteens is not an effective move. Even though the side gate might be locked, there is another gate located nearby for students to gain access to堕落街 too.
